There is beauty and adventure to be found in our West Australian backyard yet we rarely take the time to discover it. We have the perfect excuses for you to explore more on your next long weekend and choose to travel local.

1.Up your tour guide game

When is the last time you were a tourist in your own city? Staycations are a great way to explore more of your own city and its history. No doubt you will find something “bucket-list worthy” to share with visiting family and friends next time they are in town.

 2.Seize the day

Are we there yet? Are we there yet? We have all heard this before and it gets old, fast. Avoid traffic by travelling exactly when you want and cut down time physically on the road so more time can be spent on activities.

3.Support local businesses

If you love your city then support it! Visit local cafes and buy from local boutiques when you staycation and give your local economy the business it deserves. We guarantee you will find some unique places and meet some pretty special people who would be happy to share their stories with you.

 4.Keep your annual leave days

One of the most convincing reasons for a staycation is that they require no annual leave days, especially if you take advantage of long weekends. Ever been discouraged to take an overseas trip after you added up the annual leave days it would require to completely enjoy yourself? Staycations are an awesome way to still explore and relax while keeping your holiday days for something larger.

5.Save those dollars!

Of course, we couldn’t end this post without mentioning the possible dollars you would save by travelling local. Holidays don’t have to be expensive and travelling local allows you to save on flights and accommodation costs as well as expensive tours and lavish meals. To save more money, self-drive to your destination and camp in local campgrounds. This is a great way to get to know the local area and people and discover more about what your backyard has to offer.

So, what are you waiting for? Pack up the car, call your friends and take advantage of these long weekends coming up in Western Australia. Why not start off with a 2-hour drive north and explore our beautiful Coral Coast? Need some more convincing? Check out our previous blog posts.[:]
