[:en]Your weekend is going to be a beautiful one. The sun will be shining, the car’s fuelled up, and you’re on your way to Cervantes for a road trip. But what to pack? Whether it’s an overnight stay, or a daily round trip, the essentials remain the same. With so much to explore and fun to look forward to, the last thing you want to be doing is stressing about over packing!

So, without further ado, here’s our list of the essentials that we wouldn’t leave home without.

  1. A killer playlist with portable speakers

Item number one pretty much goes without saying. After all, what’s a road trip without some throwback hits. If you didn’t blast out a John Farnham anthem, did you even go on a road trip? We’ll leave that up to you.

Once you arrive you’ll be grateful to have remembered that speaker, so you can continue the fun wherever the day takes you. The beach, the sand dunes, a hike and so on, the tunes never have to end!

  1. Comfy Footwear

Our quaint town of Cervantes is full of beauty, especially at this time of year when there’s less people and the seas are relatively calm. There are so many opportunities for exploring and for off the track adventures, but the last thing you want is to be slowing everyone down while you bandage your blisters.

There are two types of shoes to consider when packing. The first is obviously your comfiest and most supportive pair of sneakers. Yes, even those ugly ones you’d hate to be caught dead in will do you wonders while exploring our native flora and fauna.

Secondly, a pair of sandals or even slide on shoes are ideal for the beach. No one wants to take home a souvenir of a sneaker full of sand. Swap them out for your beach shoes and you’re good to go!

  1. Photographic Devices

Like we’ve said, there’s so much on offer in Cervantes this time of year and you’ll surely want to snap it all up to share with your pals back home, or on social media. Again, if you didn’t put it on Instagram, did it even happen? Make sure this applies to your lunch at Lobster Shack too! We love seeing your uploads so before you dig in, snap it and tag us!

If you’re more professional than beginner, you may want to use this trip to sharpen your skills with your favourite camera. The friendly road trip companions, picturesque landscapes and overcast colours of the scenery can make for some really beautiful shots which you’ll treasure for years to come.

  1. Warm Clothing

As Cervantes is 2.5 hours north of Perth, typically our winter weather is warmer than what you’d experience in the city. However as is true with any coastal town, our nights can be cooler as the breeze rolls in off our Indian Ocean. So, packing jumpers, fluffy socks, and beanies if necessary, are all advised. The last thing you want is to be caught out in the cold!

  1. First Aid Kit

We know that when adventure calls, our rational thinking minds can sometimes fly out the window. Which is all well and good but being prepared for any situation is always a smart precaution to take. Pop a first aid kit in the boot and travel easy knowing you’re ready for anything, like a true adventurer!

  1. An Open Mind!

Last but not least, the best thing you can travel with is an open mind! Don’t stick to a strict schedule, instead, let the inspiring locations of Cervantes and our Coral Coast draw you in and lead you to places you never thought you’d end up. Follow trails, find remote beaches, or stop at lookouts on the way. It’s all part of the self-drive experience!
